Austin L. Thomas Motorcycle Accident: Motorcyclist Ejected in Fatal Oswegatchie Crash on State Highway 37

Family, friends, and members of the Brier Hill community are mourning the heartbreaking and sudden loss of 23-year-old Austin L. Thomas of Brier Hill, who died following a late Saturday night motorcycle crash in the Town of Oswegatchie.

According to the New York State Police, the crash occurred around 11 p.m. Saturday on State Highway 37, involving a motorcycle and a passenger vehicle both traveling westbound.

Investigators said Thomas was operating a 2007 blue Harley-Davidson motorcycle when it struck the rear of a 2010 white Mercury passenger vehicle driven by a 56-year-old woman from Ogdensburg. The impact caused Thomas to be ejected from the motorcycle, resulting in fatal injuries.

Emergency medical crews responded immediately and began life-saving efforts at the scene. Despite their rapid response and continued attempts to revive him, Thomas was pronounced deceased at the scene by the St. Lawrence County Coroner.

As news of his passing spread through Brier Hill, an overwhelming sense of grief settled over the community. Loved ones describe Austin as a young man who carried a bright spirit, someone known for his kindness, easy smile, and the way he made those around him feel valued and welcomed. His sudden loss has left a deep emptiness in the hearts of family and friends who are struggling to process the tragedy.

Many in the community have begun sharing memories, prayers, and messages of support, holding tightly to the moments they shared with him. The loss has been described by those close to him as unimaginable, especially for a life filled with so much ahead and so many dreams still to be fulfilled.

The crash scene remained active for several hours as State Police carefully worked to reconstruct the events leading up to the collision. Investigators examined roadway evidence and vehicle positions as part of their ongoing effort to determine exactly what occurred.

Authorities confirmed that an autopsy is scheduled at Claxton-Hepburn Medical Center at 2:30 p.m. on June 16 as part of the continued investigation.

Austin L. Thomas is being remembered not only for the tragic circumstances of his passing, but for the love he shared with those around him — a son, friend, and member of the Brier Hill community whose presence will be deeply missed and never forgotten.
