The Joplin community is grieving the heartbreaking loss of Sarah Trayer, a 47-year-old woman whose life was tragically cut short in a devastating crash late Sunday night. As family, friends, and neighbors struggle to come to terms with this unimaginable loss, many are remembering Sarah as more than a victim of a tragic accident—they are remembering a cherished loved one whose presence touched the lives of those around her.
The fatal collision occurred just before 11 p.m. at the intersection of 20th Street and Pearl Avenue. Emergency responders rushed to the scene and worked tirelessly to save Sarah’s life. Despite their efforts, she succumbed to her injuries, leaving behind a community in mourning and loved ones facing an irreplaceable loss.
Investigators say the crash followed an earlier disturbance involving two groups of juveniles near 26th Street and Maiden Lane. Authorities believe a white Ford Raptor and another vehicle occupied by juveniles were traveling at excessive speeds when the Ford Raptor entered the intersection at 20th Street and struck Sarah’s eastbound vehicle. Police have cited excessive speed and failure to stop at a stop sign as contributing factors in the collision.
On Monday, a 17-year-old male driver was taken into custody and turned over to juvenile authorities. He is currently being held at the Senator Ron Richard Juvenile Center on a petition for involuntary manslaughter while the investigation continues.
